When we were in Santa Fe a few weeks ago, we visited the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. It is now one of my favorite museums. Go! Visit! The current exhibit is called Shared Intelligence: American Painting and the Photograph and it showcased the relationship between 20th century American painting and photography. It was so cool.
There were a few O’Keeffes in this exhibit and also quotes from her. Two of the quotes were so beautiful, I just have to share them.
“My painting is what I have to give back to the world for what the world gives to me.”
On why she started painting huge flowers, she remarked that she wanted her flowers to be noticed. “Nobody sees a flower — really — it is so small — we haven’t time and it it takes time, like to have a friend takes time.”
I love both quotes but especially the second one. In our hyper-fast world of do-it-yesterday, having good friends is still the same as it ever was, a slow and lovely journey, not to be rushed.
To all my family and friends who read this blog, thank you. It’s been 10 months and 121 posts and you keep me going!
